Reminder of Effective Date of New Rule and Interpretive Notice Concerning Regulation of Broker's Brokers

The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (“MSRB”) reminds brokers, dealers, and municipal securities dealers (“dealers”) that the MSRB’s new Rule G-43 governing the municipal securities activities of broker’s brokers and certain alternative trading systems; related amendments to MSRB Rule G-8 (on recordkeeping by broker’s brokers and certain alternative trading systems); MSRB Rule G-9 (on record retention); MSRB Rule G-18 (on agency trades and trades by broker’s brokers); and an interpretive notice on the duties of dealers that use the services of broker’s brokers, become effective on December 22, 2012.[1]   For the text of Rule G-43, the interpretive notice and related amendments to MSRB Rules G-8, G-9, and G-18, see MSRB Notice 2012-34 (June 25, 2012).
