MSRB Seeks Board of Directors Applicants
The Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board (MSRB) is seeking qualified applicants to fill seven positions on its Board of Directors for three-year terms beginning October 1, 2013. The MSRB is seeking four public members and three industry members, one of whom must be a municipal advisor. Applicants representing regulated entities must be affiliated with a broker-dealer, bank or municipal advisor registered with the MSRB. Applicants representing the public must not be affiliated with brokers, dealers, municipal securities dealers or municipal advisors. MSRB Rule A-3, “Membership on the Board,” discusses the nomination and election process, including provisions about eligibility and membership requirements.
About the MSRB
The MSRB’s mission is to protect investors, municipal entities (including issuers of municipal securities, 529 college savings plans, public pension plans and other public funds) and obligated persons whose credit stands behind municipal securities. The MSRB protects these market participants by promoting a fair, efficient and transparent municipal market and by regulating broker-dealers, banks and municipal advisors that engage in municipal securities and municipal advisory activities. The MSRB has operated under Congressional mandate with oversight by the Securities and Exchange Commission since 1975.
Board Composition
The Board’s Nominating and Governance Committee reviews applicants, selects candidates to interview and nominates a slate of seven candidates voted on by the Board of Directors during the fourth quarter of the MSRB fiscal year. Names of all applicants will be published on the MSRB’s website within one week of the announcement of the new Board members.
To be considered for a position on the MSRB Board of Directors, submit an application, which is available on the MSRB Board of Directors Application Portal, no later than March 1, 2013. For questions, contact:
